I have rounded up a few easy, summer decorating ideas for the kitchen. However, these tips really work for any time of year by adapting each to fit the season.
In most of my kitchen design projects, I choose neutral paint colors and finishes. In addition, classic decor pieces like wooden trays, bread boards, white dishes and vintage baskets or bottles are my ‘go-to’ when styling a kitchen.
However, there are a few things that I prefer to change out depending on the season. Basically, candles or soaps, greenery, linens and a few decorative dishes can easily transition the feel of a room. For summer, seasonal botanicals, like fruits or plants inspire my use of color, pattern, stems and scents.
I keep a styled, yet functional tray next to the sink. Every season, switch out scented hand and dish soap. For summer, I love citrus and floral scents. For example, geranium & herbs or mint and lemon are two favorites from Ever Spring. Plus, a similar scented candle and potted plant complete the look.
Decorate with fun accent dishes to add splashes of summertime color and pattern. Simply, stack colorful bowls onto a styled tray with serving pieces and fruit. Or, top classic white dishes with colorful dessert plates for your next summer tablescape. With a few decorative bowls or dessert plates, you can create an entirely different look.
Whether you prefer to decorate with real or faux greenery, stems are one of the easiest ways to add a seasonal touch to your home. For summer, especially, in the kitchen, I love the simplicity of vibrant citrus or berry stems in vintage bottles. Another summer time combination to adore is natural grasses in handmade pottery. Lastly, you can’t go wrong with real plants and herbs!
I often rotate my collection of flour sack tea towels depending on the season. They add a pop of color to styled trays, or laid over the kitchen sink. For example, a few summer favorites currently in the shop, From: Susie, are the lemon, strawberry or peach design.
